Team on the Sea: Rachel Ma – Discovering Hidden Gems in Hainan

Sailing — the very word evokes a longing for liberation. Out on the open sea, there are millions of surprises and breathtaking beauty waiting to be explored. Since joining the yachting industry in 2012, I have become more and more passionate about water sports. I’ve raced alongside friends in domestic regattas, and on weekends I like to set sail and visit islands and revel in parties at the sea. Sanya, with its tropical island climate, is one of my favourite cities. Here, you can relax in the fresh air and sunshine. It’s a sanctuary where the demands of work fade away.

In recent years, Hainan Island has witnessed the gradual evolution of its yacht industry. From the promulgation of yacht tax-free and car tax-free policies to the construction of yacht terminals and the improvement of supporting facilities around the terminals, this development has provided sailing enthusiasts with more convenience to enjoy the freedom of yachting.

Xisha Islands in particular, has become very popular with tourists. Nestled within approximately 30,000 square kilometres of azure waters, these islands surpass even the famed Great Barrier Reef in purity. China National Geographic even bestowed upon them the title of the country’s most beautiful island. Those who’ve explored the Xisha Islands speak with reverence: “After returning, you’ll forget about the Maldives”. I encourage all explorers to visit Hainan, where uninhabited islands await your footprints, and where nature’s primal beauty remains unspoiled.
