Unexpectedly for us all, 2020 is proving to be a good year for yachting, with many clients and owners deciding to start their first or next boating adventure earlier than initially planned and enjoy their “now” time. In many ways this makes sense as a yacht represents a safe haven to retreat to and allows owners to enjoy peace of mind far away from the lockdowns and restrictions we have been facing on land.  Similar to our counterparts in the US, Hong Kong yachtsmen and boaters have been very active at sea. Being unable to travel internationally has seen boaters busy exploring their own doorstep and enjoying visiting Asia’s spectacular cruising grounds. That means that we have been very busy too, assisting our clients with their yacht upgrades, new yacht research, purchases, deliveries, refits, touch-ups, servicing, charters and more.

As we keep an eye on the activity for 2020 we have noticed that indeed this year has been a “lucky” one in some ways as we have had many 8’s in our records. These include:

• Total of 80 yachts sold by the end of August 2020 (8^th month of the year)
• Including 8 Sanlorenzo yachts sold in that period
• 800 Days of Charters booked from January to August 2020

We can be sure that 2020 still has plenty more activity to come, with several developments happening in Hong Kong, Singapore, Thailand and with the rest of SEA progressively opening up. Boating is safe and is as close to freedom as we can possibly get now. It is definitely a good time to enjoy this leisure activity at sea.
