First Unit of New Model Lagoon 55 Sold in Asia, Delivery in China This Fall

The Lagoon 55 was officially launched into the world earlier this year and Simpson Marine is delighted to announce the scheduled delivery of the first unit into Asia, in China this November. This 4-cabin version sailing catamaran will be berth in Zhuhai, China and will be set to explore the region’s spectacular cruising waters in unbeatable luxury and comfort.

The Lagoon 55 is the brand’s third-biggest sailing catamaran, behind the SIXTY 5 launched last year and the SEVENTY 7, whose release in 2016 kick-started the emergence of the brand’s ‘big four’, which also includes the SIXTY 7 and SEVENTY 8. The Lagoon 55 is the work of French catamaran specialist Lagoon and their “power trio” of outstanding names in multihull design: naval architects VPLP, former car designer turned yacht designer Patrick le Quément, and frequent collaborators Nauta Design for the interiors.

Paving a new sailing catamaran standard, the Lagoon 55 has a newly designed aft area, which improves circulation on board and creates a large terrace on the sea. The aft cockpit is more open, while the sugar scoops have been designed for easier access and to become additional living spaces.

Le Quement said: “This boat has no straight line, no flat surface. All the lines are drawn taut, all the surfaces are compound. This is done to express strength and quality. This is a completely designed vessel in all its smallest details. Our objective is not to make customers like our boat; we want them to prefer it.”

Other new features include an angled coachroof overhang and raised bulwarks. To increase light and ventilation, the coachroof features overhead windows complementing the side ones, creating an open-air effect. Massimo Gino of Nauta Design said: “Opening the interiors to such an abundance of natural light allows for a seamless connection with the landscape and the natural environment.”

Lagoon has certainly set the benchmark in Asia, with over 600 Lagoon Catamarans sold into the region. The forward orders for Lagoon Catamarans has not slowed down and has continuously been keeping the shipyard busy with delivery after delivery.
