Our Simpson Marine Beneteau double-handed team, composed of father and son Philippe and Cosmas Grelon, accomplished an impressive result in the recent Rolex China Sea Race 2023 on board the Beneteau Figaro 3, winning their division and securing a second-place finish overall in IRC.
Despite being the smallest boat in the fleet, the Beneteau Figaro 3 was the 5th boat across the finish line ahead of many 50+ feet yachts. The race was highly challenging as the ocean presented a full range of conditions, from no wind and flat seas to 35+ knots with 3-4 metre swells. Nonetheless, the Figaro 3 handled the conditions incredibly well, and the team was able to reach a top speed of 21 knots while sailing at a steady 16 knots towards the Philippines when the breeze was up. The team led the overall leader board for the final 24 hours but fell into the infamous Luzon hole in the early hours of Sunday morning. With the right conditions, they are confident the Figaro 3 can win the next Rolex China Sea race.
The team has brought the Figaro 3 back from Subic Bay, and the boat is now available for viewings in Hong Kong. Open Days took place on 11 and 12 May 2023, where customers were able to try out this racing machine with some great winds in attendance.
