In a landmark move for the nautical industry, Nautor Swan, the Finnish yacht manufacturer, has announced the strategic transfer of 60% of its shares to the Sanlorenzo Group. This merger marks a significant milestone, as two iconic brands in the bespoke sailing and motor yacht world unite, promising to create a synergy that will redefine the high-end nautical segment.
A legacy of excellence
Founded in 1966, Nautor Swan is renowned for its high-performance luxury sailing yachts. The brand is synonymous with elegance, quality, and innovation. With a comprehensive range of services including Nautor Swan Charter, Brokerage, Global Service, and the sport division managed by ClubSwan Racing, Nautor Swan has cemented its position as a leader in the production of sailing yachts ranging from 28 to 131 feet.
Sanlorenzo Group, on the other hand, has carved out a distinct identity in the luxury yachting industry since its inception in 1958. Specialising in made-to-measure yachts and superyachts, Sanlorenzo has been celebrated for its timeless designs and commitment to exclusivity, producing a limited number of bespoke yachts each year. With a focus on tailor-made experiences, Sanlorenzo yachts are as unique as their owners, ensuring that each creation is a testament to the brand’s dedication to craftsmanship, safety, and innovation.
Strategic partnership
The merger, announced on 1 August 2024, sees Sanlorenzo acquiring a 60% stake in Nautor Swan‘s shareholding, with plans to transition to full ownership by April 2028. This gradual integration allows for a seamless blending of the brands’ strengths, setting the stage for the creation of the largest player in the high-end nautical segment. The combined expertise of Nautor Swan and Sanlorenzo is expected to enhance production processes and expand the sales network.
Leonardo Ferragamo, President of Nautor Group, has expressed his enthusiasm for the merger, highlighting the shared values and commitment to quality that both brands uphold. Combining Nautor Swan‘s sailing heritage and Sanlorenzo‘s strength in motor yacht innovation will drive the industry forward, especially in terms of sustainability, advanced solutions, and new materials.
The Boatbuilding Technology Centre (BTC) in Pietarsaari, Finland, will remain the main production site for Nautor Swan, retaining the brand’s legacy and the craftsmanship of the Ostrobothnia region. Meanwhile, Sanlorenzo‘s strategic locations across Italy will complement this by contributing their renowned expertise in superyacht manufacturing.
