As is the case every year, summer time in Hong Kong means that keen sailors meet up on 12 Fridays from mid-June to late August and take part in Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club’s (RHKYS) famous Sunset Series. Held right in the heart of Victoria Harbour, enjoying the Golden Hour on the water, the series is open to all and is a good excuse to start the weekend early – fun, relaxed sailing with friends.
With more sailors spending their summer in Hong Kong this year, as a consequence of ongoing travel restrictions, the regatta is set to be even more popular than usual with a record number of boats registered on 4 June launch day. We are currently counting 67 boats versus a regular 30-40 yachts that we have seen at previous editions. The two following Fridays have both registered over 50 boats sailing, which is sure to deliver a wonderful sight across the harbour for the spectators enjoying the race from the second floor terrace on the RHKYS’s lawn.
Simpson Marine, together with Beneteau, are returning as partners of the regatta. We enjoy spending time with our boat owners and friends, and members of our Simpson team – namely Richard Allen and David Walder – will be taking part in the regatta as well, with both of them being some of the company’s most experienced sailors and racers.
Sailing has always been at the heart of Simpson Marine and, as such, to be a central part of sailing regattas and events is one of the company’s core values and activities.
