Swim for a Cause with Simpson Marine at Make Waves for Hong Kong 2024

We are delighted to announce Simpson Marine’s continued support for the fundraising initiative Make Waves for Hong Kong organised by our long-standing charity partner, Splash Foundation.

Established in 2015 by Simon Holliday and Libby Alexander, Splash Foundation is dedicated to providing free swimming lessons and water safety education to thousands of underprivileged children and adults from low income families, allowing them to experience the transformative impact of learning to swim.

About Make Waves for Hong Kong

This flagship annual fundraising event, taking place on Friday 8 November, brings together five teams of a total of 30 elite swimmers and business executives to complete a 45km multi-relay swim around Hong Kong Island to raise awareness and funds for this vital cause with a goal to raise HK$3.5 million that will enable the charity to provide swimming lessons for thousands of disadvantaged children and adults in 2024/25. The swim will start after midnight and is expected to take 12+ hours to complete. Relayers will take turns swimming in 30-minute intervals, braving the elements, changing currents and varying sea conditions throughout different times of the day.

Simpson Marine has been supporting the Splash Foundation for over eight years and has assisted in both solo and relay swims around HK Island. Our commitment to this event reflects our belief in the importance of water safety and community engagement. Last year, we were delighted to provide safety vessels, support boats, hands-on logistic and safety assistance, ensuring the safety of all participants throughout the extensive swim, a heartwarming (and sleepless!) adventure over the course of 16+ hours.

Meet Our Swimmer

Inspired by the incredible dedication and spirit of the swimmers of the 2023 edition, on top of providing support vessels, our very own team member, Marko Stojanović, Head of Service for Northeast Asia, will be joining Team Blue as one of the swimmers this year.

Marko has been a pivotal figure at Simpson Marine since 2020, leading our service team with long-term expertise and dedication. His commitment and passion make him a perfect candidate to participate in this mission to make swimming accessible to all.

In Hong Kong, surrounded by 733 kilometres of coastline (the longest of all cities in the world), comprising 260+ beautiful islands and with an abundance of swimming pools and recreational water areas, swimming is not just a recreational activity but also a crucial life skill. However, recent statistics show that nearly half of the people in Hong Kong do not know how to swim, highlighting the urgent need for swimming education. By supporting the Splash Foundation, we are helping to provide essential swimming lessons and water safety education to those who need it most.
