Country Manager Series: Howard Prime, Thailand Country Manager

In the latest of our new blog series, we have been talking to some of our regional Country Managers and Sales Managers, who oversee Simpson Marine’s operations in our hubs throughout Asia. Each brings extensive yachting experience, inspirations and aspirations to their role, helping to grow their local boating scenes with passion and dedication.

Today we meet Howard Prime, Thailand Country Manager, for 15 quick fire questions and an e-coffee. Enjoy meeting Howard and getting to knowing the Simpson Marine team better. If you would like to hear more from Howard, please send us any questions you would like him to answer for you.

Q: How long have you been with Simpson Marine?
A: It has been eight great months since I joined Simpson Marine in 2019.

Q: What inspired you to pursue a career in yachting? 
A: My passion for all things nautical.

Q: What was your first memory when it comes to yachting?
A: A week away on a yacht on a school trip when I was eight years old.

Q: In your opinion, what are the key essentials that potential buyers should consider before purchasing a yacht?
A: Always check the ownership history and usage, and pay close attention to the log book records as well.

Q: What are some of your favourite islands around your country (Thailand) that you personally like boating to?
A: The islands of Koh Ratcha, Koh Yao Yai, Koh Phi Phi and Koh Lipe are all very special and beautiful locations.

Q: What is your favourite spot on board a yacht?
A: The flybridge as it always has the coolest breeze and the best views, and sometimes a well-stocked fridge!

Q: What are some of your favourite boating activities? 
A: When I am not cruising, I race professionally in IRC 5 on an X-99 and have won silverware at many regattas.

Q: What is the most unforgettable yacht sale you have been involved in with Simpson Marine? And Why?
A: Selling a Lagoon 40 to a couple in their 70’s who are doing a global circumnavigation was special. It’s an amazing age to sail around the world.

Q: What are your top three ‘must-haves’ for a boat trip?
A: Sun Cream, cold drinks and flippers!

Q: What has been your most memorable sailing regatta? 
A: When I was in the winning crew of a Cowes Week race in the UK. The moment when we heard the cannon fire go off to signify we were over the finish line was special.

Q: What is your dream yacht and why?
A: An Oyster 82 because it is more than big enough to take me around the world in style.

Q: Given a chance to sail anywhere. where would you go?
A: Simple. Follow the trade winds and keep the breeze aft of the beam!

Q: How does Thailand yachting lifestyle differs from where you come from?
A: Definitely the climate. Now I don’t need to wear 15 layers of clothing to stay warm.

Q: What do you envision for Thailand’s yachting scene in the next 5 years?
A: I hope to see a healthy increase in cruising and racing activity across the whole country.

A: The Lagoon 77 – The ultimate luxury in catamaran sailing.
