Beneteau Unveils Flagship Grand Trawler 62, A New Way to Discover the World

French yacht builder Beneteau has recently announced the launch of their largest motorboat – the Grand Trawler 62. The Grand Trawler 62 is set to debut in 2021 and will have a range of 900nm at eight knots.

Designed to be optimised for adventurous cruising, the Beneteau Grand Trawler 62 is fitted with two MAN i6 730hp engines, with a 10 percent fuel reserve, that can reach 20knots when required. Her full displacement hull will be protected by high freeboards that were developed to optimise cruising range and efficiency.

Robert Chaffer, Product Manager at Beneteau, said: “Her exterior lines appear simple and elegant, but the underwater surfaces are mathematically complex. It took 300 hours of processing calculations and tank testing to design the hull. Our team has done a wonderful job of ensuring that the Grand Trawler 62 was 35 percent more efficient and economical at her optimum hull speed of nine knots than a conventional planing hull.”

The interiors of the Beneteau Grand Trawler 62 are designed by Italy’s Nauta Design, who focused on large living areas – ideal for spending long times onboard. “We wanted to make sure that people are perfectly at ease with the open, flowing and yet private surroundings, feeling very much as if they were at home,” said Chaffer.

Ample socialising areas on the Grand Trawler 62 are ideal for large group hosting in both the cockpit and main-deck saloon. Portside of the galley is equipped with a seat dining table forward to starboard and can be separated from the saloon by a door for privacy.

Panoramic views through a reverse windshield can be enjoyed at the central helm station, which has the option of one or two pilot seats. An internal stairway leads up to the 31sqm flybridge, which features a large C-shaped sofa that helps provide seating for eight around the table, opposite the wet bar to starboard. A sun pad is located at the forward of the helm station, while the aft deck is clear for sun loungers or a RIB that can be deployed by a davit. The foredeck has a wide sun pad and a forward-facing bench, while the transom opens fully on to the sea, creating a 9sqm swim platform just three steps down from the cockpit.

Lower-deck options comprise three or four guest cabins with an average headroom of 2-metres. In the three-cabin layout, the full-beam owner’s suite is midships, with a twin to port and an angled VIP cabin forward, all with en suite bathrooms. In the four-cabin layout, two midships cabins share a bathroom, while the forward cabin is the owner’s suite. As standard, the bulkheads and cabinetwork are in warm walnut shades or in waxed light oak. The Grand Trawler 62 also has a large crew cabin aft, with two single beds and access to the engine room.

After having recently delivered two other new models ­– the ST41 and ST47 – to Hong Kong and Thailand respectively, we are looking forward to seeing this wonderful new flagship cruising through Asian waters.
