Beneteau First 36 Takes Podium Position at the Around the Island Race in Hong Kong

On 29 October, the Simpson Marine team proudly participated in the prestigious annual Around The Island Race (ATIR), hosted by the Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club (RHKYC). The team showcased the latest addition to their fleet, the Beneteau First 36.

Competing against more than 230 boats, our team of seven crew members raced in the IRC Division “ATI 1.050 to 1.1095”, commencing racing at 9:50 am alongside other yachts in their division. The team achieved an impressive second-place finish with a time of 4 hours and 26 minutes.

The Beneteau First 36 is an exceptional cruiser racer that seamlessly blends both cruising and racing capabilities. Its flexible deck layout and easy handling make it a formidable competitor both up and downwind. With its sleek and sporty design, the crew took full advantage of the steady north-easterly winds of around 15 knots. The yacht reached a top speed of 14.9 knots downwind, flying a North Sails spinnaker, and surpassed many racing yachts and larger cruisers.

Apart from the exceptional performance that allows it to fully plane in a moderate breeze, achieving double-digit boat speeds easily and in complete control, the yacht’s modern hull design brings about an extensive interior volume. Equipped with three comfortable cabins, a bright and inviting saloon, a versatile and functional galley, and an ingenious head, the First 36 is an ideal weekender and a proven regional cruiser for families or groups of friends.
