The future of sustainable yachting took centre stage at the Cannes Yachting Festival 2023 as Bluegame, a subsidiary of the Sanlorenzo Group, unveiled their highly anticipated BGH-HSV (Hydrogen Support Vessel). This groundbreaking foiling power catamaran, developed in collaboration with the New York Yacht Club, American Magic, and designed to meet the exacting standards of the America’s Cup Protocol, marks a significant leap forward in sustainable propulsion and yacht design.

The BGH-HSV project represents a remarkable achievement in sustainable maritime technology. With the America’s Cup 2024 rapidly approaching, this innovative vessel combines the stringent requirements of the event with a commitment to environmental responsibility. It is the first hydrogen-powered chase boat specifically designed for the America’s Cup, boasting zero emissions and an unprecedented foiling capability.

Hydrogen as a propulsion system represents an absolute innovation, not only for Bluegame and the Sanlorenzo Group but for the entire yachting industry. The introduction of this technology aligns with the sustainable strategy that Bluegame and Sanlorenzo have consistently pursued, in line with their dedication to minimising the environmental impact of yachting.

The development of the BGH-HSV was no small feat. Meeting the exact specifications of the America’s Cup Protocol required the creation of a vessel measuring only 10 metres, capable of reaching an astounding 50 knots, and with a range of 180 miles. This impressive vessel pushes the boundaries of what is possible in the field of sustainable yachting.

To bring this project to fruition Bluegame assembled a team of experts with extensive experience in the America’s Cup world. This team demonstrated unparalleled expertise in structural design, composites, foil design, and the management of the software controlling these highly sophisticated flying boats. Their combined knowledge and skill resulted in a vessel that truly represents the pinnacle of sustainability and technological advancement.

Bluegame‘s dedication to innovation and sustainability has not gone unnoticed. At the Cannes Yachting Festival, Bluegame revealed an agreement with the prestigious French Orient Express Racing Team. This collaboration marks a significant moment in Bluegame‘s journey, further validating the design credibility and commitment to the future of yachting. This momentous achievement places Bluegame at the forefront of sustainable yachting innovation, setting a new standard for the industry and solidifying their reputation as pioneers of eco-friendly yachting technology.

As we look to the future and the impending America’s Cup 2024, the BGH-HSV is a testament to the possibilities of sustainability in yachting. Bluegame‘s dedication to pushing the boundaries of what is possible has taken sustainable propulsion to new heights, demonstrating that the yachts of tomorrow can be both high-performance and environmentally responsible.
